Meditate On
Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light
of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light
of life.”
John 8:12
What The
Light Of The World Does
To the woman caught in adultery, Jesus said, “Neither do
I condemn you; go and sin no more” (John 8:11). He gave her the gift of no
condemnation so that she would have the strength to “go and sin no more.” But
do you know what Jesus said next? He said, “I am the light of the world…”
Many of us, when we hear how Jesus is the light of the
world, are afraid to face Jesus because we think that His light will expose all
our sins. Perhaps you have heard preachers say, “Don’t you for one moment think
that you can hide your sin! Jesus, the light of the world, will expose your sin
to everyone!” Many of us think that that’s what “the light of the world”
does—He exposes our sins.
But look at the context in which Jesus declared that He
is the light of the world. He had just saved the woman and exposed the
hypocrisy of the Pharisees. This tells me that the light of Jesus in your life
does not condemn, humiliate or shame you. The light of Jesus in your life shows
how perfectly cleansed you are by His blood! It shows the efficacy of His blood
and the perfection of His work at Calvary.
