MEDITATE FOR SUCCESS FOR 6/30/17

Meditate On

The plans of the diligent lead surely to plenty, but those of everyone who is hasty, surely to poverty.

Proverbs 21:5

            Don’t Be Hasty For Success

God’s wisdom in today’s scripture shows us how to walk in increase: Be diligent. It tells us that being hasty for success—unwilling to work steadily and with diligence—will lead to poverty.

Beloved, God is more interested in your long-term success. He doesn’t want you to turn to quick-fixes to have overnight success. That kind of success is usually fleeting and may come with a terrible price. God wants you to have good success that lasts a lifetime.

So don’t be hasty, but take time to be conscious of His love and grace toward you, and to meditate on His Word to gain wisdom. Be diligent first and foremost in pursuing or meditating on your righteousness in Christ and His favor on you.

When you do everything on the firm foundation of His unmerited favor, you’ll allow His Spirit and His Word to develop your character and enlarge your heart. This will make you wise and safe for increase and success.

The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.

Psalm 37:23, NLT

            Led By The Spirit

God wants you to commit every matter to Him so that He can direct your steps and lead you to success. It delights Him to see His children overcoming every challenge and enjoying good success.

The Bible tells us that God has given us His Holy Spirit to lead us and teach us all things, and to bring to our remembrance God’s Word (John 14:26). So when you meditate on His Word and trust the Spirit to open up the scriptures to you, the Spirit will reveal the Lord’s grace for you through the scriptures you are meditating on. He will shed light about God’s heart, favor and supply that is specific to your need, and lead you with inward promptings to do what is best in your situation.

I’ve also found that praying often in the Spirit sensitizes me to His leading and promptings. So pray in tongues often and expect Him to lead you by His wisdom, peace and right timing to experience blessed results.

Beloved, take time today to be still, to meditate and to pray, and watch Him direct you to success!

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night.

Psalm 1:1–2

            Run With God’s Counsel

In today’s scripture, we see the psalmist describing the habits of a man that cause him to be blessed by the Lord. Notice how the blessed man “walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful.”

This means that the blessed man doesn’t depend on the advice of “experts” who are independent of and don’t honor God. Neither does he follow those who plot the downfall of others in order to prosper. And he doesn’t participate in cynical coffee shop talk! The man who does these things then is someone who doesn’t trust the Lord but fallible man and self. And he doesn’t meditate on God’s ways, but the ways of the world.

Beloved, don’t choose this path. Choose instead to trust wholeheartedly in Jesus by meditating day and night on His Word and His ways. And it will be a matter of time before you experience His blessings and success in all that you do!

...“Sit at My right hand, till I make Your enemies Your footstool.”

Mark 12:36

            Rest To See Victory

Many of us want our problems solved first before we adopt an attitude of rest. We say things like, “I can only rest when my healing manifests,” or “I’ll relax the day I get that promotion and pay increase.” But God says, “Sit at My right hand, till I make Your enemies Your footstool.”

Sitting is a position of rest. Through Jesus’ finished work you are seated with Him in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6). And you are to remain seated or at rest until you see God put every one of your problems under your feet!

Thoughts may be swirling in your head today—What am I going to do about it? Where is the money going to come from? What if the tumor is malignant? What if I lose my job? But learn to adopt an inward position of rest. When you rest, the Lord goes to work, orchestrating events in the natural and spiritual realms to bring every enemy under your feet.

Beloved, you allow Almighty God to work in you, through you and in your circumstances when you rest. Sometimes, it may seem like He is not doing anything when you rest. Don’t be tempted then to move out of your position of rest. You can’t do more than He can! Stay seated—at rest—knowing that He is working behind the scenes, turning your evil days into good days, preserving you and causing all things to work out for good!

They were completely amazed and said again and again, “Everything he [Jesus] does is wonderful...”

Mark 7:37, NLT

Masterpieces Are Made When We Rest

When we step aside to rest and allow the Lord to work on our problems, the results are marvelous. When we cease from our self-efforts and rest in Him, He can bring forth beautiful outcomes for us because everything that He does is wonderful!

The supply of His grace, health, provision, peace and whatever we need is always flowing toward us because of the cross. But when we worry and strive to solve the problem ourselves, we choke that supply.

Beloved, instead of focusing on solving the problem, focus on resting in Christ and His finished work at Calvary. Keep seeing that bodily condition healed—finished at the cross. Keep seeing that debt paid—finished at the cross. The more you rest in Christ and what He has done, the more He can do wonderful things in your life!

Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths.

Proverbs 3:5–6, AMP

Living And Resting In His Grace

Depending on the Lord’s grace and resting in His finished work does not mean doing nothing. Just look at Apostle Paul, who lived by God’s grace. He saw first-hand how a revelation of God’s grace turned him into the effective and hardworking apostle that he was (1 Corinthians 15:10).

How do we rest in the Lord and still find ourselves effectively doing what we need to do? It’s simple—just do what you ought to do, but do it trusting in the Lord’s favor, not in your smarts or careful planning. Whatever you need to do today, do it with an inward rest, without worrying or fretting, knowing that He loves you, is in charge and is for you.

For example, let’s say that you’ve got a job interview coming up. First, commit the matter to the Lord. Ask Him for wisdom and favor. Then, prepare for the interview—read up on the company. On the day of the interview, dress appropriately and go for it, all the while having an inward rest as you trust the Lord for His wisdom and favor. As you do what’s needed, He will guide you and empower you to do what’s really needful and right. He’ll also give you favor with your interviewers.

Beloved, rest in His grace today and let the Lord lead you to good success!

But whatever I am now, it is all because God poured out His special favor on me... I have worked harder than any of the other apostles; yet it was not I but God who was working through me by His grace.

1 Corinthians 15:10, NLT

Grace To Do All Things Through Christ

The apostle Paul “worked harder than any of the other apostles.” But he attributed his success to the favor or grace of God in his life.

My friend, God’s grace will never provide you with reasons to just sit around and wait for a miracle to fall into your lap. No, it will give you faith to believe that God is working in and through you despite your limitations. It will give you a get-up-and-go-for-it spirit. It will make you say, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13)!

So in whatever role or position you find yourself right now, see the Lord’s favor empowering you to do what you need to with extraordinary diligence, creativity and effectiveness. The more you lean on His grace in all that you do, the more you allow Him to make you an excellent and extraordinary employee, manager, business person, parent or minister. That’s how you allow Him to work in and through you to bring you from one level of success to another!

...but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 3:13–14

Forget The Past, See Jesus Do A New Thing!

Despite having repented and getting saved, Apostle Paul could have dwelled on his serious past mistake of persecuting the early church. He could have chosen to live a life of regret and thus fail to fulfill God’s call on his life. But he didn’t. Instead, he chose to forget the past, “reaching forward to those things which are ahead.”

My friend, don’t live in the past. Whether it’s a failed marriage, a huge mistake you made, or a hurtful remark from someone, leave them all in the past and move forward. By all means, learn from your mistake. But look to Christ as your success, wisdom, comfort and strength, and see Him do a new thing in your life by His unmerited favor.

See Him giving you stronger and blessed relationships through His wisdom and grace. See Him giving you a better job with better benefits. See Him restoring your health sevenfold. Consider not “the things of old,” but consider or meditate on His better promises (Hebrews 8:6). That’s how you move forward into His good success!

Death and life are in the power of the tongue...

Proverbs 18:21

Call Forth What You Want To See

When God saw darkness covering the waters, He said, “Let there be light,” and light existed. When Jesus saw a man’s withered hand, He said, “Stretch out your hand.” The man stretched it out and found it made whole.

Beloved, speak the good that you want to see, and not the bad that you may see in your circumstances. Instead of seeing yourself jobless, see yourself with a great job and call it forth. Say, “Because I’m God’s beloved, He will provide me with a fantastic job.” Then, start sending out those résumés!

Perhaps you want to get married. Instead of seeing yourself single for the rest of your life, see yourself having a wonderful marriage and call it forth. Say, “Because God favors me, I can’t wait to meet my life partner!” Then, trust the Lord to lead and position you to meet the right person!

So he [Elisha] answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”

2 Kings 6:16

See The Lord And His Army On Your Side

Imagine waking up one morning, going to the window and being greeted by the sight of a massive army. Hundreds of well-armed soldiers with their horses and chariots have surrounded you, and they’re there to take you down!

What would you do?

In the Old Testament, Gehazi, Elisha’s servant, was consumed by such a frightening vision one early morning. Naturally, he panicked...until the Lord opened his spiritual eyes to see that the Lord’s army was present with them—in far larger numbers than their physically visible enemies!

My friend, never see yourself alone in your struggles or challenges. Don’t go by what you can only see, feel or hear with your natural senses. See with eyes of faith how the Lord and His angels, horses and chariots of fire are right with you to protect, provide for and deliver you! And if God is for you, how can you not emerge successful from every trial?

...do not...fear the people [giants] of the land, for they are our bread; their protection has departed from them, and the Lord is with us. Do not fear them.

Numbers 14:9

            See Your Giants As Bread

The 12 men whom Moses sent out to spy on the promised land all saw the same thing. They all saw the same big houses, the same huge grapes and yes, the same giants standing in their way! But unlike the others, Joshua and Caleb saw the giants as bread. The rest saw the giants as insurmountable, impossible obstacles. As a result, Joshua and Caleb were the only ones of their generation to enter the promised land.

When you see a “giant” today in your business, health or ministry, I challenge you to see it as bread that will only make you stronger. Don’t run away in fear, but face your giant head-on—knowing that you are armed with the Lord’s unmerited favor and the powerful promises of your faithful God!

Beloved, meditate on today’s verse. Let God’s Word drive out all timidity and give you the same spirit of faith that Joshua and Caleb had. Let it change the way you see yourself—not as a tiny grasshopper, but a giant-killer—and step into your promised land!

Never Too Mature To Pursue Your Dreams

Divorced. Mature. Displaced. Most people would have been discouraged by these official terms to describe their status in society, but not a precious lady who wrote to me sharing her testimony. She didn’t let how others saw her stop her from pursuing her dreams—she applied for a university education in her latter years. What caused her to rise above those voices of defeat? What caused her to be success-minded?

She shared with me that through reading my devotionals on God’s grace and Jesus’ finished work, she became infused with faith and boldness to pursue her dreams no matter what limits others put on her. Instead of seeing herself divorced, old and displaced, she said, “I see myself as God says I am—His beloved. Because I am His beloved, I’m trusting Abba for abundant provision.” She saw Almighty God backing up her dreams and giving her a great future despite her age.

Beloved, immerse yourself in the truth of God’s unmerited favor toward you today. Be conscious every day that you are His beloved—and pursue your dreams with boldness and hope!

I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.

Psalm 139:14

            You Are God’s Masterpiece

The Bible says that you are fearfully and wonderfully made, a marvelous work of God. Do you believe that? Or are you saying, “I wish I were taller. I wish I were slimmer. I wish I had a smaller nose...then I will find success”?

My friend, don’t base your self-worth and ability to succeed on your looks or people’s negative comments. Don’t compare yourself with others—the models in fashion magazines and others in the public eye that seem to have it all together because of their looks. I’m certainly not advocating shabbiness, but whatever your height, weight or nose size, you are what God says you are—His masterpiece, fearfully and wonderfully made!

Begin to see your true self and worth in the mirror of His Word, and praise Him for it daily. It will cause you to treat your body well and give you such an inner beauty and strength that people can’t help but want to treat you favorably!

Then He brought him [Abram] outside and said, “Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be.”
Genesis 15:5

            Get Hold Of Faith Pictures

Abram saw himself childless since his wife, Sarah, was barren. But the Lord saw just the opposite. He saw Abram with not just one, but countless descendants! That’s why He changed Abram’s name to “Abraham,” which means “father of many nations.”

The new name helped Abraham to see himself with many children. The Lord also gave him another faith picture—the numerous stars in the sky. “So shall your descendents be,” the Lord said. So whenever Abraham heard his name called or looked at the night sky, he would remember the Lord’s promise and “see” all his children. Eventually, he had Isaac through Sarah!

What Are You Seeing And Hearing?

I can’t stress enough the importance of guarding your heart. The Book of Wisdom says that as a man thinks in his heart, so is he (Proverbs 23:7). Jesus also said that a man is only able to “bring forth good things” in his life if he has first filled his heart with good treasure!

How then do you guard what enters your heart? You guard what comes through your ear and eye gates!

What this means is that if all the bad news on television or the Internet is causing you to despair, turn your attention to something else that’s edifying and God-glorifying. If the people you hang out with are speaking fear, doubt and cynicism into you, I encourage you to hang out with kingdom friends who are faith-filled. Just as fear is contagious, so is faith!

I’ve always said that right believing leads to right living. The opposite is also true: Wrong believing leads to wrong living. That’s why it’s so important what you believe or allow to enter into your heart.

It’s no wonder that the Book of Wisdom tells us to guard our hearts above all else, because what we allow to take root in our hearts will determine the course of our lives! If you’ve not been experiencing success in a certain area, check what you’ve been believing about that area or about yourself in relation to that area. Ask the Lord to reveal any erroneous belief to you and ask Him to help you replace it with the truth of His Word.

Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.

3 John 1:2

It Happens On The Inside First

The apostle John tells us that God’s wish is that we prosper and be in health, even as our soul prospers. This means that our outward success, whether it’s in our health, family life, career or finances, is linked to our inward soul prosperity.

My friend, if in your heart and mind you can see yourself successful in a particular area of your life, it’s only a matter of time that you will experience it outwardly. For example, if you are chronically sick, stop seeing yourself weak and sickly. Start seeing yourself healed, healthy, strong and full of life!

How do you do that? Meditate on the Lord’s promises of health and healing for you, such as Isaiah 53:5 or Jeremiah 30:17. Meditate on Jesus’ healing miracles and see His compassion and willingness to heal you. Believe it. Visualize it. Thank Him for it, and you will experience it!

In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.

Ephesians 1:7

            Jesus Forgives And Restores!

Peter’s restoration by Jesus is one of the most touching scenes in the New Testament. The Lord not only forgave Peter, who had denied Him not once but three times to save his own skin, but also restored him and entrusted the care of the then-infant church to him.

When Jesus rose from the grave, He instructed the angel at the tomb to tell Mary to “go, tell His disciples—and Peter” (Mark 16:7). Peter was specially mentioned because Jesus knew that after such a heart-breaking mistake, the disciple was probably filled with guilt and sorrow.

Peter, on the other hand, thought that with his betrayal and Jesus’ death, everything was probably over for him. So he went back to his old job. And that’s where Jesus found him, fishing on the Lake of Galilee. The Bible tells us that Jesus gave Peter and the fishermen with him an abundant catch, and also made them breakfast on a fire of coals (John 21:1–18). The scene of men sitting around a fire to keep warm in the early morning must have painfully reminded Peter of what he had done just a few days earlier (John 18:17–18, 25–26). What was the Lord doing? He was showing Peter that He didn’t hold that sin against him, and that Peter didn’t have to be afraid of that memory anymore!

While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, and day and night shall not cease.

            Sow For A Harvest

Many people, when they see crops being harvested, say, “Wow! Look at the bountiful harvest. God is really blessing this farmer!” They see the harvest, but they didn’t see the sowing. They didn’t see the seeds being planted by the patient farmer.

Sometimes, when we see a believer clearly walking in God’s provision, we may forget that the person has been sowing “seeds” for a long time and that what we are seeing now is simply the reaping of his harvest. We only see the blessing. We don’t see the sowing.

God promises us that as long as the earth remains, “seedtime and harvest...shall not cease.” As long as you sow seeds, you can expect a harvest. So start sowing some seeds today for your own future harvest.

If you need a financial breakthrough, for example, start sowing money into God’s kingdom. Look for good ground and sow. If you need more health, start praying for the sick. If you need more friends, be a friend to someone who is lonely. Sow in the areas in which you want to see a harvest and start expecting God to bless you in those areas. It may take a while before you see your harvest, but as God has promised, as long as the earth remains, seedtime and harvest will not cease and your harvest will come!

When God Does It, It’s Perfect!

Once as a young child, I came across a shrub with gorgeous flowers. When I discovered a budding flower among the fully opened ones, I thought that it would be a great idea to help it blossom. So I tried to peel open the petals one by one...and bit by bit, the flower became undone as the petals were torn off in my little hands. I had begun with good intentions, but killed the poor flower in the end!

My friend, when it comes to our areas of concern, our human efforts to solve our problems, despite the best of intentions, cannot produce results that are as beautiful as if we were to allow God’s wisdom and timing to do it. It’s when we rest from our self-efforts and struggles to solve our problems, and allow God to work in us and through us, that we see divine results.

I’ve often said this: If God wants all the glory, then allow Him to do all the work. God loves it when you look to and lean on Him alone. In heaven, it’s, “Worthy is the Lamb,” and not, “Worthy is the Lamb...and me.”

Beloved, stop trying to make it all happen through your own strength and wisdom. Cease from trying and start trusting the Lord. Let Him work in and through you to overcome your challenges, accomplish your dreams and fulfill His plans and purposes for your life.
