And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.”

Matthew 8:20

 Meditate On His Love

I find what Jesus said in Matthew 8:20 so beautiful. Let me tell you why. In the original Greek text, the word “lay” is a very unique Greek word, klino. It is seldom used in the New Testament.

The only other place it is used in terms of Jesus resting His head is at the cross. When Jesus hung on the cross and cried, “It is finished,” the Bible says that “He bowed His head, and gave up the ghost” (John 19:30, KJV). The word “bowed” here is the same Greek word “klino”.

My friend, it was only at the cross that the Son of Man finally found a place to rest His head. Jesus found His rest in redeeming you, in saving you. He found His rest in loving you.

So beloved, feed on Jesus’ love for you. Listen to sermons or sing songs about His love for you. You will be surprised at how strong it will make you. You will become more than a conqueror, not through your love for Him, but through Him who loves you (Romans 8:37)!

“Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this,” says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, so that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground, nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field,” says the Lord of hosts.

Malachi 3:10–11

 The Open Windows Of Heaven

Beloved, do you know that God doesn’t need your tithe? I tell my congregation not to tithe if they have no revelation of tithing. This is because nothing will happen if they tithe out of fear or religious obligation.

My friend, only tithe to your local church if you have a revelation that it is an act of worship and thanksgiving to Jesus. You are saying, “Jesus, YOU are the source of all my blessings and increase. Thank You for always blessing me and my family out of the riches of Your grace.”

When you tithe out of such a revelation, God declares, “I will...open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it...I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, so that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground, nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field.” Clearly, tithing is for those who have a revelation of God’s heart for our provision.

Can you see God’s heart to provide for every area of your life? When you have a revelation and worship Him with your tithe, you will experience the open windows of heaven!

Arise, shine; for your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and deep darkness the people; but the Lord will arise over you, and His glory will be seen upon you.

Isaiah 60:1–2

 Don’t Fear The Famine

Do you believe that you can experience the most increase when the world is experiencing famine?
My friend, famines have been around since the time of the Old Testament patriarchs. But the good news is that God always takes good care of His people. Abraham had more than enough during a time of famine. His son, Isaac, had enough to sow during a time of famine and reaped a hundredfold. In fact, Isaac began to experience the most abundant increase and provision during the time of famine.

That’s God’s style. All glory goes to Him when you and your loved ones are provided for during a famine. Beloved, fear not, but be confident and assured that Jesus will lead you into new levels of success and blessings. He will cause you to experience a hundredfold increase even when the world is in famine.

And thus you shall eat it: with a belt on your waist, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. So you shall eat it in haste. It is the Lord’s Passover.

Exodus 12:11

Partake Expecting Deliverance!

Chew on this interesting truth: On the night of the first Passover, God told the Israelites in Egypt to eat the roasted lamb with their belts and sandals on, and with their staffs in their hands. A strange instruction, don’t you think? Why did God want them to eat the Passover that way? What was He saying to them?

God was saying, “Get ready! Get ready to get out!” In other words, they were to eat the Passover lamb with a readiness to leave Egypt, the land in which they were slaves to Pharaoh. They were to eat the lamb expecting deliverance out of Egypt. They were all dressed up with somewhere to go!

Now, we know that the Passover meal is a shadow of the Lord’s Supper or Holy Communion, which Jesus instituted on the night He was betrayed. So when we partake of the Lord’s Supper today, we are to partake with the same attitude that the Israelites had. In other words, when we eat the Lord’s Supper, God wants us to expect deliverance from whatever enslaves us, whether it’s depression, a physical condition or financial lack!

Today, partake of the Lord’s Supper with a readiness for your deliverance. As you meditate on what Christ at the cross has done for you, expect to be healed. Expect the situation in your marriage to improve. Expect the best to happen to you! And as the Israelites walked out of the land of their bondage shortly after partaking of the lamb, so will you experience your breakthrough!

He also brought them out with silver and gold, and there was none feeble among His tribes.

Psalm 105:37

 You Have The Real Thing

They ate their way out of slavery and bondage.

On the night of the first Passover, God had told His people to take a lamb for each household, roast it, apply its blood on their doorposts and eat the roasted lamb in their homes that night. The next day, all the Israelites, with “none feeble” among them, walked out of Egypt into freedom.

Why eat the lamb roasted? Because it was a picture of Jesus, the true Lamb of God, exhausting the fiery wrath of God for all our sins and paying the full price for our healing at the cross.

The physical roasted lamb the Israelites ate was a shadow. Today, you have the real thing.

Whenever you partake of the Holy Communion, see the true Lamb of God judged for your sins and sicknesses. He has freed and delivered you from every disease!

But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.

Genesis 6:8

            Rest Finds Grace

When a subject is mentioned for the first time in the Bible, there is usually an important truth we can learn. So do you know when or where the word “grace” is first mentioned in the Bible? It’s in Genesis 6:8—“But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.”

“So what’s the important truth to be learned here, Pastor Prince?”

My friend, the name “Noah” means “rest”. Therefore, the powerful truth here is that REST FINDS GRACE! The more you rest in the finished work of Jesus, and do what you need to do out of that rest, the more His grace will operate in your life and cause you to experience His blessings!

When you go about your work, studies or household chores resting in the knowledge that the Lord’s favor is on you and blessing the work of your hands, you can’t help but see His supernatural results and provision.

Beloved, learn to rest and find grace in the eyes of the Lord!

Therefore He who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you, does He do it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?

Galatians 3:5

            Don’t Sacrifice Hearing For Doing

My friend, God who performs miracles among you, does He do it by the hearing of faith or by the works of the law? It is by the hearing of faith—hearing and believing. The works of the law cannot give you miracles, but the hearing of faith can. The Bible says that by the foolishness of preaching, God sozos you. That is, He saves, heals, blesses and makes you whole (1 Corinthians 1:21).
For example, when Paul was preaching in Lystra, a crippled man who was listening to the apostle had faith to be healed. All Paul had to do was shout to him, “Stand up straight on your feet!” And the man leaped and walked (Acts 14:10).

Beloved, don’t sacrifice hearing for doing. In the Old Testament, the Israelites made the golden calf from gold earrings. Gold in the Bible speaks of divinity and earrings, hearing. Together they speak of divine hearing. The calf is an animal of labor. In other words, by worshipping the golden calf, the Israelites were worshipping the god of labor and sacrificing divine hearing for doing. That is what a lot of Christians are doing today. They focus on doing and sacrifice hearing.

So don’t fall into this trap. Your works or self-efforts cannot save you or bring about the miracle you need. Just keep hearing about and meditating on what Jesus has done for you. Believe the good news and rest in Jesus’ finished work. Faith will come to empower you to stand, walk and leap in victory!

And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”

Luke 10:41–42

            Success From Doing One Thing

Sometimes, the hardest thing for us to do is to sit down! Indeed, one of the most challenging things we can do is to cease from our own efforts and rest solely in Jesus’ unmerited favor. Often, we are like Martha—worried, busy and troubled about many things. It can all be legitimate things that we are worried about. In Martha’s case, she was trying her best to serve the Lord. She ended up doing many things that day, but missed out on doing the one thing that was actually needful.

Now, is it practical to just be occupied with Jesus? Absolutely. We find that later, in the Gospel of John, Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped His feet with her hair to prepare Him for His burial (John 12:3–8). On resurrection morning, some women came with ointment to anoint Jesus’ body, but it was too late then. They were doing the right thing, but at the wrong time. The Lord had already risen. But Mary had done the right thing at the right time.

Beloved, when you do the one thing that is needful, you will end up doing the right thing at the right time, and God will cause all that you touch to be amazingly blessed!

So she lay at his feet until morning and rose before one could recognize another…Again he said, “Give me the cloak that is on you and hold it.” So she held it, and he measured six measures of barley and laid it on her. Then she went into the city.

Ruth 3:14–15, NASB

            Rest Yields Far More Results
When Ruth worked from morning to evening in the field of Boaz, a wealthy relative, she collected only one measure of barley. That’s about 10 days’ supply. But when she simply rested overnight at his feet, he gave her six measures of barley—about two months’ supply!

Boaz, Ruth’s kinsman redeemer, is a picture of Jesus our Redeemer, whom we are to rest in. This rest refers to an inner posture of trust and quiet confidence in Jesus’ finished work and in His ability to give you increase and good success as you go about doing what you need to do. Rest is not sitting around doing nothing and waiting for His blessings to fall into our laps.

Beloved, what God doesn’t want you to do is worry and do things out of fear. He wants you to rest at Jesus’ feet and listen to His words of love and life. Let Him drive out your fears and lead you to good success!

Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

Romans 5:1–2

            Accessing God’s Unmerited Favor

How do you access God’s unmerited favor? How do you walk in a greater measure of it?
Romans 5:2 clearly spells out that “we have access by faith into this grace [unmerited favor] in which we stand.” So to gain access to and increase in God’s unmerited favor, the key that we need to have is faith—faith to believe that we are indeed highly favored by God!

Why can we believe that we are highly favored by God?

Ephesians 1:6 tells us that by God’s grace (unmerited favor), God “made us accepted in the Beloved.” In the original Greek text, the word “accepted” is the word charitoo, which means “highly favored.”

So because God has placed you in Christ the Beloved, you are highly favored! Look at yourself in the mirror every morning and boldly declare, “Because I am in Christ, I am highly favored! So I expect good things to come my way.” Beloved, live life conscious of the fact that God highly favors you and you will experience even more of His favor!

For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty.

1 Corinthians 1:26–27

            God Chooses The Weak

God’s ways are often opposite from the world’s ways. According to 1 Corinthians 1:26, “not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called.” Isn’t it fascinating to discover that while the world looks favorably upon the wise, mighty and noble, God does not? Let’s see in the next verse what God chooses instead: “God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty.”

Isn’t it amazing? God has chosen the foolish and weak things to qualify for His abundant blessings. But the verse does not say that the foolish and weak things will remain foolish and weak. Instead, by God’s unmerited favor, they will put to shame the so-called wise and mighty things in this world. In His hands of grace, the foolish and weak things become even wiser and mightier than the wise and mighty things of the world.

My friend, God is interested in your success. Even if you are not the swiftest, strongest, wisest, most knowledgeable and most skillful in the natural, God can still bless you with good success when you depend on His grace. You can rise above the system of meritocracy and survival of the fittest through His undeserved, unearned and unmerited favor!

For they [God’s people] did not gain possession of the land by their own sword, nor did their own arm save them; but it was Your right hand, Your arm, and the light of Your countenance, because You favored them.

Psalm 44:3

The Race Is Not To The Swift

The world tells you that those with the qualifications, talents and experience get the jobs, promotions and high salaries.

My friend, though you live in this world, as God’s beloved child, you need not be limited by it. You have God’s favor—His unmerited, unearned, undeserved grace! Ecclesiastes 9:11 tells us, “The race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong...” This means that even if you are not the smartest, strongest, most knowledgeable or best looking in the natural, God can still give you good success when you depend on His grace. It is His right hand, His arm and His favor that provide for you, fight for you, defend you and give you increase.

So instead of mulling over your “disqualifications”, be conscious of God’s favor on you. Smile and say, “God’s favor is all over me because of Jesus. I expect good things to happen to me today!” Beloved, be conscious of His favor. Believe it. Confess it. And you will experience it!

And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, “I have heard the complaints of the children of Israel. Speak to them, saying, ‘At twilight you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread. And you shall know that I am the Lord your God.’”

Exodus 16:11–12

            Blessed Based On God’s Goodness

Many years ago, when I was studying God’s Word, the Lord spoke to me, saying, “Before the law was given, none of the children of Israel died when they came out of Egypt. Even though they murmured and complained against God’s appointed leadership, not a single one of them died. This is a picture of pure grace.” I had never heard anyone teach this before or read it in any book, so I quickly went through that portion in my Bible and indeed, I could not find anyone who died before the law was given!

You see, when the Israelites journeyed from Egypt to Mount Sinai, they were under the Abrahamic covenant of grace. They only came under the law when the Ten Commandments were given to them at Mount Sinai. Therefore, in spite of their sins, God delivered them out of Egypt and provided for them supernaturally, not based on their goodness and faithfulness, but based on His goodness and faithfulness.

Beloved, the good news for you and me is this: Today, we are under the new covenant of grace (unmerited favor), and God’s unmerited favor is upon us. Therefore, His blessings and provisions for us are based entirely on HIS GOODNESS and HIS FAITHFULNESS. Hallelujah!

Now when the turn came for Esther the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her as his daughter, to go in to the king, she requested nothing but what Hegai the king’s eunuch, the custodian of the women, advised. And Esther obtained favor in the sight of all who saw her.
Esther 2:15

Let The Lord Be Your Promotion

When King Ahasuerus was looking for a new queen, the most beautiful women in the land were all brought into the palace. All the women were given the opportunity to adorn themselves with whatever they desired from the women’s quarters before they were brought for an audience with the king.

But when it was Esther’s turn, she “requested nothing but what Hegai the king’s eunuch, the custodian of the women, advised.” And look at the results: “Esther obtained favor in the sight of all who saw her,” and the king “loved Esther more than all the other women, and she obtained grace and favor in his sight more than all the virgins; so he set the royal crown upon her head and made her queen” (Esther 2:17).

While the other women probably tried to outdo one another by relying on their own efforts, Esther wisely submitted to the one person who knew the king’s preferences best, and the results speak for themselves. I want you to see how Esther depended on the Lord’s unmerited favor. She did not strive to win. She rested in the Lord and humbled herself, and the Lord promoted her and exalted her above all the other beautiful women.

So he who had received five talents came and brought five other talents, saying, “Lord, you delivered to me five talents; look, I have gained five more talents besides them.” His lord said to him, “Well done, good and faithful servant...”

 Give Jesus Something To Multiply

In the parable of the talents, the master commended the first two servants because they multiplied the money entrusted to them. They didn’t laze around drinking tea, complaining about how hard it is to get a job in this economy. On the contrary, they were diligent, wise and prudent, and found ways to double the money that had been entrusted to them. The Lord then congratulated them and called them good and faithful servants.

My friend, I want to encourage you to be a diligent, wise, good and faithful steward of the money that God has placed in your hands. But of Him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption.

1 Corinthians 1:30, KJV

 Christ Is Your Wisdom

When you depend on the Lord’s wisdom to succeed, you will see whatever you do prosper. From the Gospels, we can see how our Lord Jesus always flowed in divine wisdom in His earthly ministry.

In everything our Savior did, He was altogether lovely. He was never early, never late. He was always at the right place at the right time. He was always in perfect peace and never stressed or harassed. When it was time to be tender, He was infinitely gentle, gracious and forgiving—we see this from His response to the woman caught in adultery. When it was time to overturn the tables of the moneychangers, He did it with passion. He was never frazzled by the Pharisees’ attempts to trip Him up and was always flowing with divine wisdom.

Beloved, this same Jesus, with all His wisdom, is today our ascended Christ, who is seated at the Father’s right hand, and whom the Bible says is “made unto us wisdom.” He is your wisdom! So begin to see yourself in Christ, who is always flowing with divine wisdom, always in control of the situation, and the same wisdom that flows in Him will flow in and through you!

He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.

Psalm 23:2

 Smart People Follow Jesus

The world says, “He who fails to plan, plans to fail.” It says you’ve got to make smart, detailed plans to succeed in life. You’ve got to study market trends, and be in the know, so that you can be the early bird that catches the worm. You’ve also got to keep looking over your shoulder because you never know when your competitors are going to catch up with you!

Is that how God wants you to live your life? Most certainly not! He wants you to be a sheep. He wants you to take Him as your shepherd and rest in His love and care for you! Leave all the “worrying” and working out of plans to Him. He sees further than you can! And when you simply follow His leading, you will end up walking in good success.

Once, when I decided to sell my apartment, I didn’t prioritize studying the property market to see if it was a good time to sell it. In fact, I found out that someone else who had just sold off a similar-sized unit had done so at a price that was an all-time low. He must have been in a hurry. Naturally speaking, he spoiled the market for me.

In any case, my wife and I felt that it was the right time to move. We just decided to follow the Lord’s leading. So we put our apartment up for sale and guess what? After only a few viewings, we sold our apartment at the price we wanted! And when we bought our new apartment, we bought it at a price that was at an all-time low! What Jesus did for me, He can do for you too.

My friend, by all means, make plans and be diligent to know what you need to know in the field of your industry and in the areas you’re going to make important decisions. But first, seek and hear what Jesus is saying to you as you bring your concerns and what you need to do to Him. Believe that He will lead you by His Spirit and with His wisdom and perfect timing. And He will lead you to good success in ways beyond anything that you can ever plan for!

But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

 Be Changed By Beholding Christ

If you go to any good bookstore, you will find a section called “Self-Improvement”. Here, you’ll find all kinds of books describing various principles and methods you can follow to improve yourself. In all these books, the focus is on you using your willpower and self-discipline to apply the principles to improve yourself.

But God does not want you focusing on yourself. That’s self-occupation, which can only take you so far, with results that last only as long as your willpower lasts. God has a higher way. He wants you to be Christ-occupied. When you look to yourself to improve yourself, you are putting confidence in your flesh. But the Bible tells us that in our flesh dwells no good thing (Romans 7:18), and that we should put no confidence in our flesh (Philippians 3:3).

My friend, the best way to change yourself is to forget self and be occupied with Christ. When you read the Bible, see His beauty, His majesty, His compassion and His grace. As you keep beholding and meditating on His glory, the Holy Spirit inside you goes to work in you. He will transform you into the very same image of Christ. You will be changed from glory to glory, experiencing true and lasting inward transformation.

For Moses writes about the righteousness which is of the law, “The man who does those things shall live by them.” But the righteousness of faith speaks...

Romans 10:5–6

            The Righteousness Of Faith Speaks

Let me say something about faith. You cannot have faith without speaking it. When you study Romans 10, you will notice that it says that “the righteousness which is of the law...does...But the righteousness of faith speaks.” The law is about doing, whereas faith is about speaking. It is not enough to just know in your mind that you are righteous. You need to open your mouth and say by faith, “I am the righteousness of God in Christ.”

Paul said, “And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, ‘I believed and therefore I spoke,’ we also believe and therefore speak” (2 Corinthians 4:13). The spirit of faith is clearly about believing and speaking. So it does not matter how many sermons or books on righteousness you have heard and read. You need to believe it and speak it.

Confessing your righteousness in Christ keeps you conscious of Jesus. Every time you speak it, you magnify His finished work on the cross. So believe and speak the truth: “I am the righteousness of God in Christ.” The more you believe it and speak it, the more you will walk in the blessings of the righteous!

Proverbs 23:7

Right Living Is A Result Of Right Believing

Preaching about right living will not result in long-lasting or permanent change in people’s behavior. It’s time for us to go after the root, and the root is not in preaching right living, but in preaching right believing. Believe right and you will live right. The opposite is also true: Believe wrong and you will live wrong.

My friend, Christianity is not about behavior modification. It is about inward heart transformation. So start addressing the root instead. Get hold of good teachings that are full of God’s grace and that reveal His righteousness that comes by faith in Jesus.

When you are anchored on these unshakable foundations, your outward behavior will come in line with His Word and you will begin to be transformed into His image from glory to glory (2 Corinthians 3:18).

So today, meditate on God’s grace toward you and how you are made right by Jesus’ finished work on the cross. You will produce the fruits of righteousness and reign in life!
