Wisdom From The Psalms For 9/4/13

Psalm 77:2

In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord: my sore ran in the night, and ceases n ot: my soul refused to be comforted.

The sharp ache kept bringing Fran fully awake. The tooth was bad, but there was nothing she could do about it until the next day. She wanted to slip into blessed sleep to escape the pain, but the fool tooth wouldn't let her. She prayed continually for God to ease her suffering enough for her to fall asleep. She was on the verge of tears when she felt He wasn't listening. He wasn't doing anything to help her.

Too often we want god to make it all better, when that just simply isn't the way He operates. Sometimes we have to endure pain or suffering, and God isn't going to make it go away. When our pain threatens our very being, then He will intercede for us, but when we experience the pain of normal everyday living, God allows us to endure it. Endurance builds us up and helps us grow. We can seek the Lord, and He will be with us, but He may not take away the irritation we suffer with.

Prayer: Lord, I'm sorry that I often ask You to deal with things that I should deal with myself. I am lazy, and sometimes I refuse to face everyday life. Help me get over my selfishness. Amen.
